Valentine’s Day presents come in many forms—some of us get or give flowers or chocolate. Some lucky ones get Signature Needles—so be sure to let your loved ones know what you would like. Our needles will last longer than flowers and not stay on your thighs—so what’s not to love?
Lots of things came to my mind during this marathon: First, apparently people spend LOTS of money on their hobby. I know there are knitters who agonize over buying more needles or yarn but let me tell you that the attendees of that auction spent MILLIONS of dollars and didn’t seem to be in the least bit bothered. I also noticed that there were about as many women in attendance as there are men at a Stitches show—not many.
My dear husband got his present early when I shared in a special weekend recently. He is a lover of collector automobiles and didn’t find it the least bit odd that the Speed Channel had 40 hours—no kidding—40 hours of an auction of antique and collector cars. Of course, I got credit for being a great wife and sharing in the experience of 2 days of 10 hours each(!) by knitting while he oohed and ahhhed.
And then one commercial really made me bristle. You may have seen the Ford 150 truck commercial where they are touting the strength they provide “unless you are carrying (disdainful tone) YARN”. I would love to get that ad executive to a show like the Maryland Sheep and Wool and see the yarn vendors straining to haul big boxes of yarn in and out of their vehicles. I bet they discarded ideas that would say “unless you are carrying fishing lures” or “golf clubs”
Nearly every day all year long I get “Valentine’s” when our customers email with such supportive comments. Honestly, I know many of you by name and your “story”. We have an amazing group of Signature Knitters with life stories that amaze, amuse, and touch our hearts. We come from many different places all around the world and from all walks and circumstances but share that love of knitting. Each day I try and email a few customers and the responses make me able to say that there is NEVER a boring day here.
So Valentine’s Day can be a chance to do all kinds of things for your loved one or yourself. We have a free
pattern for you when you buy some needles. It is for an “any yarn, any needle” heart scarf that is reversible.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
